Learn to Dive with PADI

The Padi Open Water qualification is where most divers start to learn and enjoy the underwater world.

The Open Water course consists of 3 modules.

1. Knowledge DevelopmentPadi Logo

In this element you develop an understanding of the basic principles of scuba diving. You learn things like how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best scuba gear and what to consider when planning dives.

You briefly review what you have studied in the five knowledge sectionsof the Padi Open Water Manual with your instructor. You then take a short quiz to be sure you understand it. At the end of the course, you take a longer quiz that makes sure you have all the key concepts and ideas down. You and your instructor will review anything that you do not understand until it is clear.

Most of this Knowledge Development is Self Study, culminating in a classroom session. If you prefer, you can now complete all this module On-Line at your own pace, following your own timetable, using Padi E-Learning.

2. Confined Water Skills Scuba Training

You develop basic scuba skills by scuba diving in a pool. Here you willl learn everything from setting up your scuba gear to how easy it is to clear water out of your scuba mask without surfacing.

You willl also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air or replacing your scuba mask. You will have a great time learning the skills you require to dive safely.

3. Open Water Dives and Scuba Skills Review

This is where you get to experience the underwater adventure. You do 4 Open Water Dives with an Instructor and discover what the underwater world is really like. You will also practice the skills you learned during your pool training.

The Padi Open Water Course is entirely performance based. Your Instructor's interest is in your learning to scuba dive, in the water, not in a classroom. Training is based upon demonstrating that you know what you need to know and can do what you need to do. Whether you find the Padi Open Water course easy or difficult, you will find it challenging and you will have fun. My own Open Water Training article is here.
